- USS Thresher (SS-200): Lost on 22 APR 1942 (T19) near the Marshall Islands to land-based aircraft while conducting her fifth war patrol. During her career, Thresher sank 5 enemy ships for a total of 24,000 tons; she was ranked 1st in both categories at the time of her loss.
- USS Gato (SS-212): Lost on 5 MAY 1942 (T20) in the Java Sea to counterattacking escorts while conducting her second war patrol.
